How the fence calculator works
The fence run is divided by your maximum planning spacing, then rounded up to a whole number of sections. Posts are counted at section boundaries, with a separate input for extra corners or ends.
Example
A 120 ft run with an 8 ft maximum interval creates 15 sections before adding any extra corner or end posts.
Planning only: this calculator does not select code-required spacing, structural dimensions, footing depth, wind design, or gate-post requirements. Use the applicable design and local requirements.
Fence calculator FAQ
Why does spacing sometimes become slightly smaller?
The calculator treats your spacing as a maximum and divides the run into equal sections that do not exceed it.
Are corner posts included?
Use the extra-post input for project-specific corners, ends, or other additional posts.
Does this size the posts?
No. It estimates count and spacing only.
