Quick answer: Estimate bricks needed for a wall by entering wall dimensions, openings, brick face size, mortar joint and waste. Start with actual measurements, use the product label for coverage or yield, and treat the result as a planning estimate until site conditions and supplier requirements are confirmed.

Estimate brick count from wall area, openings, face dimensions, mortar joint and waste.

Wall inputs

Why mortar joints matter

Brick quantity is based on the effective module: brick face dimension plus the mortar joint. This is more useful than dividing wall area by the raw brick face alone.

net wall area = length × height − openings
module area = (brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)
bricks = net wall area ÷ module area × (1 + waste)

Important limitation

Brickwork can use different bonds, cuts, returns, corners and openings. Use the actual brick dimensions and intended joint from the project specification. This tool is a planning estimate, not a masonry takeoff.

FAQ

Can I use any brick size?

Yes. Enter the actual face dimensions of the brick you plan to purchase.

Should I include doors and windows?

Enter their combined area in the openings field so the calculator subtracts it from the wall.

How much waste should I allow?

Use a project-appropriate allowance for cuts, breakage and future replacements rather than assuming one percentage always fits.
