How steel bar weight is calculated
Weight equals cross-sectional area multiplied by length and steel density. This tool uses approximately 490 lb/ft³ or 7,850 kg/m³ for ordinary carbon steel. Actual product mass should come from the supplier specification.
Worked example
A 2 in × 0.25 in flat bar that is 10 ft long has a cross-sectional area of 0.5 in². The estimated weight is about 20.4 lb before rounding.
Planning only: nominal dimensions, alloy density, mill tolerance and supplier mass tables may differ. Confirm the exact product before purchasing or designing a structural connection.
